Preoccupied with 1985

I want to my life to be my own personal 80s movie. I will have Molly Ringwald's hair. And in the end I get the boy of my dreams. He has a red car and stands outside my window holding a boom box (which is the height of fashion) playing something along the lines of Forever by KISS or Always by Bon Jovi. And it is not cheesy.

I love the 80s. Here's why:
  • Music: Springsteen, Springfield, KISS, Bon Jovi, Poison, Def Leppard, Journey, Michael Jackson, Tom Petty, The Police, Van Halen, Guns n' Roses, Whitney Houston, AC/DC, Talking Heads, Toto, The Bangles, Men at Work, REO Speedwagon, The Smiths, Hall and Oates, Cindy Lauper, Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Wonder, Aerosmith, Heart, Ozzy Osbourne, The Rolling Stones, Whitesnake, Tears for Fears, Bryan Adams, Huey Lewis and the News, The Cure, Styx, Air Supply, Asia, Europe, Boston, Chicago, A Flock of Seagulls, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Alan Parsons Project, Yazoo, Blondie... (really really like the music)
  • Movies: Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Back to the Future, Out of Africa, Three Men and a Baby, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Star Trek, Sixteen Candles, Some Kind of Wonderful, Starter for Ten (period movie--it counts), Footloose, War Games, Amadeus...
  • Fashion: I'll be honest, I couldn't dress like it was the 80s now. But you have to respect people who could wear leather jackets, neon shirts, stirrup pants, cowboy boots, big hair, and guyliner all at once. That takes talent. Without the 80s we wouldn't have fingerless gloves or acid wash jeans or enormous earrings.
  • History: Jimmy Carter was no longer President, M*A*S*H finale (ending of an era...), Yugoslavian boy declared the five billionth inhabitant on the earth, the Berlin Wall comes down.
"It's on European socialism. I mean, really, what's the point? I'm not European. I don't plan on being European. So who gives a crap if they're socialists? They could be fascist anarchists, it still doesn't change the fact that I don't own a car...Not that I condone fascism, or any -ism for that matter. -Ism's in my opinion are not good. A person should not believe in an -ism, he should believe in himself. I quote John Lennon, 'I don't believe in Beatles, I just believe in me.' Good point there. After all, he was the walrus. I could be the walrus. I'd still have to bum rides off people."
